Web development is the process of making a website. The tools, technologies, and programming languages all play their part.
Programming
I am an expert with HTML and CSS and have extensive experience debugging cross browser compatibility issues that often arise in front end web development. My experience includes working with HTML 5 and microdata formats such as Schema.org.
My front end programming knowledge also includes a moderate level of JavaScript and popular JavaScript libraries like jQuery, MooTools, and Google’s AJAX library. I prefer to use PHP or Ruby on Rails for any server-side programming and strongly support open source coding practices and communities.
Content Management Systems
I love Wordpress. Wordpress 3.0 rocks and so does Thelonious. Big props to the Wordpress team for making this a blue ribbon winning open source content management system. Wordpress is my CMS of choice because it has been proven to provide a highly reliable and easy to use CMS that is very easily customized to suit a wide variety of needs. I have been working with Wordpress for over 7 years.
When I am using Rails for web app type projects I like to use a CMS called Radiant. Its really nifty and has an awesome group of developers supporting it. So far Radiant is the leading the Ruby on Rails CMS and the most production ready CMS out there. There are hundreds of free extensions for Radiant and each one just as useful as the last. I look forward to each new release.
I have also worked with several other big name content management systems like Drupal and Joomla. These CMS platforms are very similar to Wordpress because they are developed using PHP and have a large library of extensible content that allows for a highly customized end product.
